Extra clothing and sleeping bags are being distributed this week to homeless people in BԪַ.

With overnight lows expected in the range of minus 7 C to minus 9 C, the Central Okanagan branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association is swinging into action.

“We know how dangerous these cold snaps can be for people experiencing homelessness,” says chief executive officer Mike Gawliuk. “Our Community Roots team is committed to being out on the streets ensuring that folks who are unhoused are provided with warm clothing and have access to the supports they need to stay safe during the cold days and months.”

Heavy-duty winter jackets, toques thermal socks, hand warmers, insulated blankets, and sleeping bags are among the items to be distributed.

Members of the community can help out by donating new or gently-used heavy-duty winter clothing to the CMHA BԪַ office at 504 Sutherland Ave, or providing a cash donation online at
