Re: 鈥淏C Conservative B次元官网网址 Centre candidate posted conspiracies, pandemic holocaust comparisons,鈥 (Infotel, Sept. 28)
听
As B次元官网网址 prepares for the upcoming election, itB次元官网网址 important to carefully consider the choices we make for our communityB次元官网网址 future. One candidate, Kristina Loewen of the BC Conservatives, presents significant concerns.
Loewen lacks the political experience necessary to navigate the complexities of provincial governance. Her inexperience raises questions about her ability to effectively represent our communityB次元官网网址 diverse needs in Victoria. B次元官网网址 is facing critical issues such as housing affordability, healthcare accessibility, and sustainable development.
Unfortunately, Loewen has demonstrated a lack of understanding when it comes to these pressing concerns. Her disconnect from the realities many B次元官网网址 residents face is of great concern.
Furthermore, LoewenB次元官网网址 behaviour within the community suggests she is not the best choice to serve as our voice. Looking at content shared about what she has publicly said is horrendous. She has shown an unwillingness to engage meaningfully with local issues, raising doubts about her commitment to representing her constituents. Our representative in Victoria should be someone who truly understands and advocates for B次元官网网址B次元官网网址 unique challenges.
For the future of B次元官网网址, letB次元官网网址 choose a candidate with experience, understanding, and a genuine commitment to our communityB次元官网网址 wellbeing. I will, and I encourage others in our city to vote for Loyal Wooldridge as he has shown he is committed to our city and to the needs of our community.

Stupid logic by Conservatives
听
Dear Editor:
听
The BC Conservative Party wants to eliminate stumpage fees. These are essentially fees paid by B次元官网网址 forest product companies to harvest trees on crown land.
听
The BC Conservatives assert that eliminating theses fees will help BC forest product companies.
听
This is stupid logic. This will give the U.S. government, acting on behalf of U.S. forest product companies, yet another excuse in our ongoing softwood lumber dispute with them. They already claim B次元官网网址 is subsidizing our industry. LetB次元官网网址 help them solidify this claim by eliminating stumpage fees.
听
The result will be higher import duties for B次元官网网址 forest product companies exporting to the U.S.. No gain for our forest industry and a reduction in B次元官网网址 revenue from our forest resource.
听
Is that what you are voting for?

Re: 鈥淩ustad pledges to close B次元官网网址B次元官网网址 overdose prevention sites,鈥 by Rob Shaw; 鈥淔ormer chief coroner raps front-running parties鈥 drug stances,鈥 (Victoria Times Colonist)
听
In this case, John Rustad gave a glimpse into some of the proposals he鈥檒l advance on the issues of street disorder, homelessness and drug use in the upcoming election campaign
听
鈥淭hereB次元官网网址 a lot that needs to be done on this,鈥 he said Thursday.
听
鈥淲e need to take safe injection sites and turn them into recovery intake sites.
听
We need to build out capacity, everything from doctor-prescribed treatment, to short-term recovery, to long-term recovery, to involuntary recovery, and even to long-term care.
听
鈥淭hereB次元官网网址 a lot of things that need to be set up and structured with a heavy focus on getting people into recovery, as opposed to just giving them more drugs and perpetuating and growing the problem that we have in British Columbia.鈥
听
When far right conservatives like John Rustad talk about common sense solutions they mean simple-minded solutions to complex problems. Lately Rustad has revealed his common sense solution to the homeless/street drug addiction problem. If he gets the keys to government power he鈥檒l close all supervised consumption sites and shut down harm reduction and safe supply programs. He also promises a new (and unnecessary because thereB次元官网网址 already a robust Mental Health act) law to allow for locking up addicts with mental health issues. He says he鈥檒l turn the supervised consumption sites into treatment intake centers.
听
Think about that. Drug users who used to smoke or inject their substances on those premises will now just walk in without their dope for treatment? Even though the ones with brain damage from previous overdoses likely want nothing to do with treatment?
听
But letB次元官网网址 say Rustad somehow orders the cops to round up all the street drug users and cart them off to as yet unbuilt and un-staffed treatment centers where they鈥檇 be held, housed, fed and 鈥渢reated鈥 for an indefinite period.
听
According to B次元官网网址B次元官网网址 former Chief Coroner, Lisa Lapointe, as many as 100,000 people in B次元官网网址 have substance use disorder.
听
Right now it costs about $90,000 a year to house an inmate in B次元官网网址B次元官网网址 jails. If even a tenth of B次元官网网址 drug users were committed for treatment... I can鈥檛 even do the math on this. Then thereB次元官网网址 the fact that Lapointe, who was on the job for the past 10 years of the drug crisis says thereB次元官网网址 no evidence that
involuntary treatment even works.
听
This is common sense? Do not let Rustad anywhere near the PremierB次元官网网址 office.

NDPB次元官网网址 flipflop on carbon tax
听
Dear Editor:
听
Beep, beep, beep! Is that a cement truck backing up? Wait, itB次元官网网址 the NDP reversing themselves on the carbon tax.
听
The NDP has been wedded to the carbon tax as the best way to fight climate change. But nothing focuses the political mind like an election, so carbon tax is out in the face of universal discontent with rising costs and the impact of the tax on the essentials of daily living. The reality is that you just can鈥檛 tax your way to prosperity.
听
Climate ideology has failed the test of real world practicality in spite of a host of leftist politicians and 200 economists insisting that carbon tax is still the best way to reduce carbon emissions.
听
These people may know about the effects of taxation, but they don鈥檛 know doodley about the climate.
听
David Eby says he鈥檒l drop the carbon tax if Justin Trudeau does, but if the carbon tax is such a burden for people, why isn鈥檛 he calling on Trudeau to end it immediately?
听
EbyB次元官网网址 proposal may be moot anyway with the Conservatives trending to win big federally with a promise to 鈥渁xe the tax鈥.听 Even if Eby manages to squeak out a win, thereB次元官网网址 no way that he can keep the tax after itB次元官网网址 been discontinued in the other provinces.
听
Now the federal NDP wants to axe the tax, which is surprising because they鈥檝e defended carbon taxes as an instrument of social justice through taxation and wealth re-distribution. Who knows for sure though, because trying to pin down Jagmeet Singh on anything is like trying to pin Jell-O to the wall.
听
The carbon tax was never going to improve the climate. ItB次元官网网址 a symbolic gesture foisted on us under the label of saving the world. It hasn鈥檛 reduced carbon emissions in a measurable way over the last 14 years, even though there is agreement that something should be done to improve the climate. It was, however, a big revenue generator for government.
听
LetB次元官网网址 be honest; it was never revenue neutral either.
听
If carbon tax worked it would have sold itself, instead of being candied up as tax rebates in an attempt to buy popular support. A majority of people have finally seen through the smoke, mirrors and shell games.
听
After 14 years, I鈥檝e never met anyone volunteering to pay more carbon tax. But I have heard quite a few people volunteer others for it.
